The Role

Lazard Asset Management is currently recruiting for research analyst(s) to support its Sustainable Investment and ESG team which is located across New York and London. 

Reporting to the Co-Heads of Sustainable Investment & ESG, you will work as an integral part of the Investment department to further advance and deepen the research on the energy transition across the firm for both equity and fixed income. As an analyst, our team approach will allow you to benefit from the insight of your peers while being responsible and accountable for your individual insight and contributions to the team and portfolios.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast growing team within a large global organisation.  This newly created role will play a key role in leveraging the firm’s existing ESG capabilities to ensure Lazard maintains its reputation for cutting-edge investment research. The position requires an individual with a passion for ESG and sustainable investing combined with subject matter expertise on climate change and strong numerical and financial modelling skills.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Conducting independent thematic research on climate change and the expected energy transition, drawing on external reports (sell side and ESG focused research providers), data sets and news to advance LAM’s proprietary ESG Research framework
  • Researching companies and issues against LAM’s Sustainability Framework and Climate Change Investment Policy
  • Working closely with PM teams to better incorporate energy transition related risks and opportunities into their security selection and portfolio construction process
  • Building frameworks and tools for portfolio managers and analysts to leverage around key climate change risks and opportunities such as the carbon taxes, the energy transition and related risks of stranded assets or opportunities for new technologies like hydrogen, as well as industry frameworks like the Net Zero and TCFD
  • Identify opportunities to take ownership and responsibility for other projects/activities that contribute to the success of the firm’s ESG capabilities  

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Passion for climate research with 7+ years of experience primarily in investment banking, sell side research, asset management and/or consulting. We would also welcome those with academic experience or work at climate-focused non-profits if they are well acquainted with financial modeling and/or have an understanding of how climate issues intersect with investment analysis
  • Deep subject matter expertize on climate change and the energy transition - regulations, technological disruptions, industry participants, climate data
  • Strong financial, analytical, modeling (Excel) research and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial individual with the ambition to succeed in and work collaboratively in an environment that demands constant multi-tasking and liaison across regional offices, investment platforms and time-zones
  • A methodical approach to work, with an ability to organize and prioritize heavy workloads
  • Accountability and willingness to take initiative to independently learn and continuously improve output
  • Strong sense of individual responsibility and accountability
  • Highly collaborative, team-oriented individual
  • Pro-active attitude and approach to work that can help to optimize the team’s success
