The Role

Lazard Asset Management is currently recruiting for an ESG Data Analyst to support development of its Sustainable Investment and ESG team which is located across New York and London.  

The individual will be responsible for helping us develop a comprehensive ESG data and analytics platform. You will draw on your strong knowledge of the curent ESG data landscape,  compare and contrast various ESG data vendors (ratings, raw data and alt data providers), build upon our existing frameworks and tools and dig into emerging trends to make sure they stay on the cutting edge of ESG developments. 

You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders such as Lazard's research, risk management, legal & compliance and client servicing departments to understand our their goals and translate them into compelling models and datasets. We anticipate your work to be an iterative process to ensure that the data, frameworks and analytical tools we create can be integrated within their processes.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast growing team within a large global organisation.  This role will be central to raising the profile of the firm’s ESG capabilities internally and externally with clients. The position requires an individual with a passion for ESG and sustainable investing. The individual should be adept at organizing, manipulating and interpreting ESG datasets as well as having strong writing, presentation and project management skills.   

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive ESG data lake to ensure firmwide access to ESG data across multiple channels - direct feeds, our internal research database, portfolio mgmt. interface and other vendor applications like Factset and Bloomberg
  • Enhance our proprietary ESG dashboards (security level and portfolio level) with a focus on dynamic materiality using cutting edge tools such as NLP
  • Work closely with investment teams to identify, prioritize and develop data and analytical tools needed such as portfolio carbon footprint analysis, net zero path assessment, enhancements to our sustainability scorecards etc.
  • Work with risk management teams on the development and maintenance of ESG related internal risk reports in line with the firm’s overall ESG strategy
  • Contribute towards ESG related client reports alongside Client Portfolio Managers, to reflect and incorporate ESG data and information that reflects the strategy’s ESG KPIs and portfolio level objectives
  • Identify opportunities to take ownership and responsibility for other projects/activities that contribute to the success of the firm’s ESG capabilities  

Key Skills and Experience:

  • 5-7 of professional experience in a relevant financial services firm or ESG data provider
  • Demonstrated passion and knowledge of ESG and Sustainability and working technical proficiency/command of investment management concepts
  • Excellent and proven project management skills with the ability to work collaboratively with different internal stakeholders in order to deliver the best outcomes for clients/the firm’s reporting capabilities
  • Knowledge of ESG data landscape, the advantages of certain kinds of data and vendors and associated challenges
  • Experience with financial tools and working with large and complex data sets
  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial individual with the ambition to succeed in and work collaboratively in an environment that demands constant multi-tasking and liaison across regional offices, investment platforms and time-zones
  • Pro-active attitude and approach to work that can help the team identify opportunities to do things better/differently in order to optimize the team’s success
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships across all levels and represent Lazard positively to external contacts
  • Accountability and willingness to take initiative to independently learn and continuously improve output
  • Knowledge in information technology and statistical analysis or computer programming (for example SQL, VBA, MATLAB, Python, Regex)
